Spending Account & Store

The Boutiki

The Boutiki is open for parents to shop on opening day and offers great camp-related gift items for parents to leave in The Boutiki’s designated area for their campers’ mail. You can add her name, her cabin name, and the day you want it delivered and we will take care of the rest.

Campers also enjoy shopping for snacks and souvenirs while they are on their “campcation” just like parents when they are on vacation. To make this possible, parents set up a spending account in CampMinder.  Each camper’s name tag has an exclusive bar code that is used for purchasing.  This ensures cash is not lost at camp. Please do not sent cash with your camper.

Make sure you discuss with your camper any spending limits you wish to set. We make every effort to honor your wishes with spending limits. However, the hectic nature of our store time makes it difficult for us to always know who is spending what amount so we cannot guarantee your child will not overspend.  If we see that your child’s account is getting low in funds we will text you to let you know her balance before she overspends. It is always your choice whether  to add more funds to her account or to issue a “stop spending” request.

Spending Account

The spending account is designed to cover any extra expense a camper incurs while at Riverview. Spending accounts should be set up for each camper and purchases are deducted from those accounts. Please include your child’s spending money with your May 1st camp fees payment, or at least a week before she arrives in camp. We enter her credit to our store database and deduct her purchases from that credit. Those accounts are NOT online.

The Snack area of The Boutiki is open twice a day. We allow campers to purchase 2 snack items AND a drink each time at a cost of between $1 and $3 each.  See the diagram to the right for an ESTIMATE of what she might spend in an average week or two week session. This is in no way a comprehensive list of all the items in the Boutiki and does not imply you should add this amount to your daughter’s account. It is merely an example for you to see what might be possible.

The Gift Shop area of The Boutiki is open at various times throughout the session. The gift shop includes the required Team Uniform, as well as camp T-shirts, sweatshirts, specialty camp items, toiletry items, disposable cameras, souvenirs to bring home to family, games, toys, etc. For your convenience, miscellaneous items such as stamps or personal hygiene items are also available. If your camper happens to need something that we do not stock in our Boutiki we will be happy to pick up anything she might need on one of our trips into Fort Payne…a pillow, medication, virtually anything extra she may have forgotten to bring or she may need while at camp.

As a parent you should make your own decision about how much you would like for your child to have in her spending money account. Discuss with your daughter her spending options. If your daughter is limited to the amount you are putting into her account and you have no plans to add additional funds, discuss this with her before she arrives at camp. Our Boutiki is a temptation for those who have no experience with shopping without a parent's supervision...more so for first-time campers than for the more experienced.  We try to monitor balances to avoid "overspend" situations but with hundreds of girls in camp and dozens in the store to check out at once, and with only two cashiers, we just aren't able to always catch every low balance before the overspend situation occurs. We appreciate your patience with us and your understanding to know that we will do our best to honor your wishes and avoid an overspend situation if at all possible.

IF we see that her spending account is getting low we will try to text you to let you know her balance.  You are not obligated to add more money to her account. If you decide you do want to add more funds you can do so through CampMinder and we will then transfer the credit to the Boutiki database and issue a new nametag/gift card. However, for us to know that you have added money, you will need to email Vickie@riverviewcamp.com to let her know that funds have been added. Otherwise, the extra funds may get overlooked with the money coming in for campers who have not yet arrived at camp and she may not get a new gift card to use.

If your daughter is staying at camp for more than one session we have “extra events” planned for her over the weekend between sessions which require a separate fee in addition to her spending money for each session. This extra fee is NOT to be paid into her spending account but will be added to her camp fees balance.

Any doctor or druggist bills incurred while at camp will be paid with parent’s insurance whenever possible. When this is not possible it will be paid for by camp and the cost will be deducted from the camper’s spending account.

Other expenses that may affect the spending account each session could include Nutty Buddy gifts, and in 3rd session, Christmas in July gifts.

Requested refund checks for spending accounts will be mailed at the end of summer after all medical bills and prescription charges have been paid.

Money is held in the spending account for the next year if a refund is not requested and the balance is not requested to be transferred to pre-registration for the next year.

You may easily add money to your daughter’s spending account online with a credit or debit card or e-check. Choose ‘View Gift/Snack shop spending Account’ on the parent dashboard in CampInTouch or you can mail a check.
